A wonderful opening partnership of 130 from Jesse Ryder (62) and Brendon McCullum (59) proved the difference for New Zealand as they won the second Twenty20 international against West Indies in Hamilton by 36 runs, thus levelling the series 1-1.

After beginning the tour with a string of low scores, Ramnaresh Sarwan (53) played brilliantly, bringing up his half-century off just 30 balls and looked more like the player that once averaged comfortably over 50.00 in ODIs. However, it proved in vain as West Indies finished short of their target of 192.

Earlier in the day, Ryder and McCullum gave New Zealand the perfect start before the visitors fought back gallantly to restrict the home side to 191 for 9. The two added a whirlwind 130 from just 70 balls, but McCullum's departure signalled the collapse of nine wickets for just 61 runs as West Indies surged back into the match.

McCullum faced 34 balls and hit six fours and four sixes, while Ryder used 41 balls to hit seven fours and three sixes. Both were brutal on anything too full or too short and, ultimately, it was their fireworks that gave the hosts the edge.

Interesting how we keep coming back to 1995. That was when the unprecedented - and still unmatched by some distance - 15-year unbeaten run in Test series came to an end at the hands of Mark Taylor's Australians with a humiliating innings defeat in Jamaica. And now, with West Indies withstanding a late scare from New Zealand in pursuit of 312 off 60 overs on the last day in Napier yesterday, this is the first time that the Caribbean side have not lost a Test series away from home against nations other than Zimbabwe and Bangladesh since, yep, 1995.

2nd Test Australia vs South Africa Day 1 Live Streaming

The squads have had a few days to digest the outcome and for Australia the distaste of losing forced at least one player to be spat out.

But it will take more than just personnel alterations for Ricky Ponting's men to fight back in Melbourne. They face the challenge of turning a moderate attack into one capable of curbing South Africa's powerful batting line-up, while their own batsmen try to click back into gear.

Australia: 1 Matthew Hayden, 2 Simon Katich, 3 Ricky Ponting (capt), 4 Michael Hussey, 5 Michael Clarke, 6 Andrew Symonds, 7 Brad Haddin (wk), 8 Brett Lee, 9 Mitchell Johnson, 10 Nathan Hauritz, 11 Peter Siddle.

South Africa have named the same side that earned the remarkable win at the WACA. The only question-mark was over the fitness of Ashwell Prince, whose cracked thumb kept him out of the Perth line-up.

Prince was making good progress but was not considered quite ready for a return at the MCG and his replacement JP Duminy, who struck the winning runs on his Test debut, has proven a more than capable Test No. 6.

South Africa: (probable) 1 Graeme Smith (capt), 2 Neil McKenzie, 3 Hashim Amla, 4 Jacques Kallis, 5 AB de Villiers, 6 JP Duminy, 7 Mark Boucher (wk), 8 Morne Morkel, 9 Paul Harris, 10 Dale Steyn, 11 Makhaya Ntini. Skysports

India vs England 2nd Test Live Scores & Highlights

There are a few things we’re thinking about,” confirmed Pietersen today. “There are guys who have come on this trip who are raring to go and wanting to play and it’s just about making a decision on who the best team is to try and win a Test match and try and play positive cricket.

Kevin Pietersen has said England don’t need to change too much for the second Test in Mohali, starting on Friday. England, he said, had performed creditably enough in Chennai to claim 70% of the Test and push India hard.

England desperately need to win the Test to draw level in the two-Test series, while India, with the confidence of having beaten the Australia and then following that up with a win over England in Chennai, will be looking to keep their five-match unbeaten run going.

Both teams have a variety of reasons to worry about on the eve of the Test; for India, it will be the form of Rahul Dravid, who has had a horror year so far, and he will be hoping to at least finish it off on a high. Despite the poor form, the selectors and the captain continue to back the former captain;

Dhoni has all along said Dravid was "one innings away from recovering form", and the Indian team management will be hoping that Dravid plays that one innings in Mohali.

The other area of concern for the Indians will be the form of the spinners Harbhajan Singh and Amit Mishra; despite having a fairly spin-friendly surface, both Harbhajan and Mishra struggled in the Chennai Test, and one hopes the duo have learnt their lessons heading into this Test match. There were periods when Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma too appeared lacklustre, but one can pardon them for a brief period of ineffectiveness, given they've had an outstanding last twelve months.

1st Test India Vs England at Chennai - Dec 11-15, 2008

Match scheduled to begin at 09:30 local time

The first Test, India vs England in Chennai, starting on Thursday, faces the strong possibility of rain disruptions and the fallout from a weakened cyclone over the state of Tamil Nadu over the next few days.

England arrived in Chennai on Monday to resume their tour of India but the team could be denied adequate practice if the rain persists in the city.

Showers early this morning flooded the outfield at the MA Chidambaram Stadium and the Indians were forced to remain indoors. England are due to train later in the day but that may also be affected.
